Barry Martin is the only builder in Eastern N.C. To have won 3 National Awards from the National Association of Homebuilders: (1) Platinum Award in the Best one-Of-A-Kind Custom Home; (2) Platinum award in 4,000 – 6,500 Square Feet Category and (3) Best In Region Award

Also, the only builder in NC to have won the Design for Better Living Award, awarded by the American Wood Council.
 
About Barry Martin, NC Licensed Builder:
 
Barry is a native of North Carolina and started in the construction industry when he was 18 years old, with one of the largest custom home builders in Raleigh, NC.  He started his own construction company in 1976 and at that time was the youngest licensed general contractor in North Carolina. Barry built custom homes in Raleigh until 1984 when he moved to Manteo, where he co-developed and assisted in the construction of Pirate's Cove Marina for the next 16 years.
 
Barry started Pirates Cove Big Game Tournaments in Manteo, NC and was Committee Chairman for 16 years, along with his wife, Monique, who worked 10 years as Tournament Director. Through the tournaments, monies were raised for numerous charities: Special Olympics, The Outer Banks Cancer Support Group and the Shriner’s Crippled and Burned Children’s Hospital. In 2013, Pirates Cove Big Game Tournaments was closing in on the $1 Million dollar figure for donations to charities. Barry and Monique, as Chairman and Director for the Pirates’ Cove Big Game Tournaments, were picked #7 of 10 World Wide Marlin Tournaments chosen by Marlin Magazine as the best of 10 all round tournaments in the world.
 
Barry was appointed by Governor Hunt to the Governor’s Cup Billfishing Conservation Series Board of Directors. Also, his wife, Monique, was the first lady to be appointed to the Governor’s Cup Tournament Committee Member for the State of North Carolina.
 
Barry was appointed and served on the Dare County Wildlife Commission for 3 years; he was also appointed by the Dare County Board of Commissioners to the Oregon Inlet and Waterways  Commission and served on that board for 4 years.
Barry was a volunteer with Ducks Unlimited for over 12 years, where he was a Dinner Chairman with the Wake County Chapter and a Zone Chairman for Central parts of North Carolina. Barry was awarded the Ducks Unlimited, Jerry P. Langdon Memorial Award and the Joe Blow Memorial Award. One award is given to a committee member each year for outstanding contributions for Ducks Unlimited. He is now a Brunswick County Duck’s Unlimited Sponsor.
 
In 1999, Barry moved to Southport and started his own construction and development company, Southern Shores Development, LLC. Barry developed Harbor Oaks, a 112 lot subdivision, where he has built over 75% of the current homes. He has been building in the Southport area, including St. James Plantation, Cottage Point, Old Southport, The Landings and Oak Island.
